The Mermaid of Galloway tells a tragic story of love and revenge on the Solway Coast of south west Scotland. The original ballad by Allan Cunningham drew on a number of traditional tales of the mythical creatures in the Galloway area. Written in the early 19th century the poem was published in ‘Remains of Nithsdale and Galloway Song’ by R H Cromek. The original Scots song is presented in this volume along with a translation by local historian and bookseller Bre Martin with illustrations by artist Fran Raw. The same team created the book The Langhill Fairy based on another Galloway legend.
