Even though the early months of the year are usually our quietist in terms of customers, it’s been a busy time for Foggie Toddle Books. We’ve had a rejig of the second and third rooms in the shop, making these spaces work much better for the customer. We’ve been moving furniture around and investing in some new pieces, like the lovely display in the picture above, as well as welcoming some new stockists like these lovely Beltie booties from Midge Porter Design. We’ve also brought in some new cards from local artist Caroline Smith of Galloway Arts, illustrator Catherine Rayner and designer Alexandra Snowdon.

As it’s the National Year of Reading we’ve been working with other business owners in the town to help promote the importance of reading – especially as we are all part of Scotland’s National Booktown. Posting through the Booktown Blether podcast page on Facebook, we have been asking people to share readings for Valentine’s Day and then for World Book Day. We’re planning to post regular videos of readings as we go through the months of this important year. Why not follow the Booktown Blether page. We are also stocking book quiz sheets put together by Dawn Revie of Spinning a Yarn and there will be lots of different events throughout the coming months.

And talking of World Book Day, we were very pleased to host the community dressing up collection for the children of Wigtown so that they could borrow and then return an outfit to wear on the day. Although she didn’t dress up as a book character, Foggie Toddle owner Jayne Baldwin put on her author hat to entertain almost 100 children at Kirkcudbright Book Festival. She read her books Betty’s New Best Friend and Betty & Archie Finding Friends.
