We’re very excited to be working with author Susi Briggs again thanks to being awarded a Scots Language Grant from the Scottish Book Trust and the Scottish Government. The grant helps small indie book publishers like Foggie Toddle Books to publish Scots Language books and it enables us to work with new artists like Charlotte Brayley who will be making her debut as a children’s book illustrator. Together we will be creating a picture book for wee ones from Susi’s story Yum which was first written for the Scots Hoose online resource.
Like Wheesht, which we published last year, Susi was commissioned to write the stories for the Scots Hoose website which provides materials for teaching and encouraging the Scots language in schools. Susi and publisher Jayne Baldwin travelled to Biggar to meet up with Charlotte who is based in Perthshire. Together we’ll be creating the book based on Yum, the lovely story of a wee girl making new friends through kindness and generosity. Charlotte will be basing the central character of wee Jenny on her own two year old daughter.
We’re planning to launch the new book at the Big DoG children’s book festival in Dumfries in the spring of 2024 so we’re just at the start of our journey together. So let the fun, er we mean work, begin.
