Front door pots
Spring really does feel like it’s here, with tulips coming into bloom in our front door pots and the prospect of being able to reopen on the 26th of April. It has felt like a long winter for all of us, though we have been very busy behind the scenes. Lou has been adding vintage books to our Etsy page and keeping us right with our accounts. She’s also created some lovely window displays and sorted out new UV film for the windows in the hope that we lose fewer books to the effects of sunlight this summer.
Meanwhile Isabelle has been great at sprucing up the shop and working with Jayne to create a new product which will be available very soon on the shop page. It’s the Wee Bee Baby Bundle which was created in response to a customer who wanted to send a monthly gift to her spouse and baby daughter. It prompted us to put together a lovely gift idea for any child under a year and a parent. The bundle contains a high quality board book featuring bees, a personalised hand made book bag made for us by the Textile Twins or a hand knitted bee hat from Happy Snail Crafts, and a little something for the parent, like chocolate, shortbread, or handmade honey soap. We’re just putting the finishing touches to the idea before making it available on the website shop.
We’ve also been ordering in some lovely new products from Pebble – delightful organic fairtrade baby rattles and toys, Best Years – fabulous baby friendly dinosaur toys, and new cards and jewellery from small independent sellers that we’re sure you’ll love.
We’re very excited to be publishing the first poetry chapbook by award-winning Scottish writer Des Dillon. We’ve been working in collaboration with Helen Morley from the Wigtown Press to produce a beautiful limited edition book featuring nine poems and six pen & ink illustrations by the author. The book has been produced using a analogue press using moveable metal type with each copy going through the press 2500 times. This is the first time artist and printer Helen has worked with another publishing company so it’s been a voyage of discovery for us all. Each book from the edition of 100 will be signed and numbered by the poet. This chapbook has been published under the Second Sands imprint though and is definitely not for children. The language used in the poetry may cause offence to some people and the poems deal with adult issues. The chapbook is available to pre-order now on the website shop.
