Betty & Archie
We’re delighted to announce the launch of a new adventure for Betty the Belted Galloway who first met Archie the Highland in the book Betty’s New Best Friend. The picture book was part of the restart for Foggie Toddle Books after Wigtown’s children’s bookshop came under the sole ownership of author Jayne Baldwin in April 2020. Of course this was also the start of the Pandemic which meant a tricky beginning for the shop and publishing company.
As the established writer of several picture books featuring the local – and distinctive – breed of cattle, the Belted Galloway, Jayne thought it was a good idea to launch the publishing side of the business with a new story. This time the illustrator was designer and artist Caroline Smith who did a wonderful job of creating the new characters Betty and Archie.
The success of the business and the publishing company meant that Jayne was kept very busy, too busy to write another adventure for the new friends until last year. The first book ends with the characters heading off to play Hide and Seek, so Jayne thought this was a good start for the new story.
Betty & Archie are playing the game with their friends but have failed to find them! The story starts with the pair setting off for one final look. Wee ones are sure to enjoy the fun story and the vibrant illustrations. The book is now available on this website or from your local independent bookshop.
