We’re into the second week of December and Wigtown has a wonderful month of seasonal events in full flow, organised by the community and the booksellers of the town. We’ve already had visits from Santa, a Christmas Quiz, performances of a festive song, fairs and fun. This coming weekend – the 14th and 15th of December, the town will be hosting a special ice rink in the gardens with late opening in some of the shops and the return of the Pop-Up Bar!
In Foggie Toddle Books you can see from our pictures that we have lots of lovely and quirky Christmas decorations for sale from fair trade company Namaste, including recycled sari ‘tinsel’. Fran Raw from Raw Art has been busy making Macrame angels and felted trees, and of course we have lots of lovely seasonal books for all ages. We have Christmas cards by the Original Poster Company and Green Pebble. We have an extra selection of gorgeous gifts created by Elinora in our very back room. Lorraine, the talented knitter and weaver, behind all these lovely creations set up her display today and they’ll be available until Christmas, You can choose from hand-knitted neck warmers, scarves, hats and gloves. Perfect for the weather we’ve been having.
On our publishing side, Susi Briggs had a fabulous time at the first St Andrew’s Festival in London reading her stories to wee ones including her lovely Nip Nebs titles, Wheesht and Yum illustrated by Charlotte Brayley. The festival was a big success and the organisers are hoping to build on the idea next year. And talking of next year, we already have plans for a number of new titles in 2025 – but we’ll give you more details in our end of year post.
