Excited to announce that Susi Briggs will be heading south at the end of the month to take part in the first St Andrew’s Book Festival in London. She was invited to take part in this event organised to showcase Scottish authors and illustrators in the heart of London. Susi will be reading from all of her books including Yum illustrated by Charlotte Brayley, Wheesht illustrated by William Gorman and her Nip Nebs stories (perfect for the season) with wonderful pictures by the late Ruthie Redden. Susi, of course, is a busy woman as the current Scots Scriever with the National Library of Scotland, and is attending a number of events north of the border, but was delighted to be invited to this first celebration of Scottish writing in London. We’ve got lots going on in the background at the moment. Lou is busy preparing the Christmas window and we have lots of lovely new stock in store – more about that next time. Author of The Highland Cowgirl, Louisa MacDougal has her thinking cap on for a follow up to her picture book. There are a number of stories in the mix but we’re working with illustrator Sarah to see which she feels will work best visually. Fran Raw and Gary Martin are working on a new story from local folklore to follow on from The Langhill Fairy. Fans of The Castle Cat by Alasdair Hutton will be pleased to know that we have a second book in the pipeline and Catherine Stables is currently working on two more adventures for Shona the Vet which are planned for release at Easter and autumn next year. I can also reveal that Betty and her best friend Archie will also feature in a new story next year. Illustrator Caroline Smith has started work on the illustrations. Exciting times for Foggie Toddle Books!
We’re about to record a new podcast for Booktown Blether but in case you missed it, Gary from New Chapter Books explored a local scary story for our Hallowe’en special and he did a wonderful job of creating a spooky atmosphere. It’s an extraordinary tale from the 17th century based here in Galloway so if you haven’t listened yet please go and tune in.
