YUM! Author Susi Briggs at Kirkcudbright Book Week.
What a World Book Day!
Author and Scots Scriever Susi Briggs was invited to talk about her Scots Language picture books at Kirkcudbright Book Week – and, of course, reveal her latest book Yum. What a lovely audience of nursery and P1/2 children from the local primary school. They loved joining in with the Arooooos of Wheesht and the Yum Yum Yum from Susi’s new book.
It was a busy World Book Day for Susi as she also called in at the Kirkcudbright Galleries and at the town’s lovely bookshop Gallovidia Books, to sign copies of the new book Yum which features delightful, vibrant illustrations by artist Charlotte Brayley.
The wonderful staff at Kirkcudbright Library had decorated the entrance with images from Wheesht and another Foggie Toddle title – The Wee Kirkcudbright Centipede.

We think they did an amazing job of recreating Shug the Dug from Susi’s book Wheest, with illustrations by Wigtown artist William Gorman. And they also did a great posted featuring the Wee Kirkcudbright Centipede from the song by Matt McGinn with illustrations by Galloway artist Fran Raw.

Up in Perthshire, artist Charlotte Brayley’s daughter had a very special World Book Day.
Charlotte drew inspiration from her daughter for the way she created the images for Jenny in Susi’s story. Wee Freya was able to dress as the character for World Book Day. How amazing is that? We think you’ll agree that she just looks absolutely wonderful.
