I was so surprised to see that my last ‘news’ post was back in May when Bhreagh joined the team! It shows what a busy summer it has been. Isabelle is always very interested in where visitors to Wigtown come from and she began compiling a list. Magghi picked up a children’s world map that is now on the wall behind the till and the little bees on it represent the amazing number of people who visit Wigtown from around the world. The US is full of wee bees and they are also in eastern Europe, Iceland, Israel, and there are so many in Germany that we can’t fit any more! Still empty though are Africa and South America.
As we approach the autumn we’re looking forward to the annual book festival which returns as a full event again after the Pandemic. It runs from Friday 23rd September to the 2nd October and a highlight for us will be the launch of our new book The Wee Kirkcudbright Centipede. This is a picture book based on the popular song written by Matt McGinn. We were given permission by the family to create a book using the words of the song. The book also includes the music so everyone can join in with the chorus. The artwork has been created by multi-media artist Fran Raw and put together with Caroline Smith of Galloway Arts. The book will be launched with an event led by Scots writer Susi Briggs who will be singing the song and there will be arts and crafts sessions with Wheesht illustrator Will Gorman and printing with Fran Raw. The book is available to buy through our shop page on this website and the first 50 copies sold will receive a wiggly centipede toy.
